Product Description

A gear pump utilizes the interaction of two interlocking gears to create a flow of fluid. These gears are connected to a drive shaft, causing one gear to drive the other. The pump's housing and side plates enclose the spaces between the gear teeth, forming pumping chambers where the fluid is pushed through.

When the gear teeth of a pump unmesh, they create a partial vacuum at the inlet which allows fluid to flow in and fill the empty space. This fluid is then carried around the outside of the gears until they mesh again at the outlet, at which point the fluid is forced out. However, the high pressure at the pump's outlet causes an unbalanced load on the gears and their bearing support structure, which can potentially lead to damage or failure if not properly managed. Therefore, it is important to consider the effects of this pressure on the pump's operation and take appropriate measures to ensure its long-term performance and reliability.

There are two types of gear pumps - external and internal gear pumps. External gear pumps have teeth that stick out from the center of both gears. Depending on the needs, these pumps can use spur, herringbone, or helical gear sets to move fluid through them.
