The external gear pump consists of two meshing gears and a pump cylinder, with a tooth profile shaped like a double-arc sine curve. These gears create separate cavities for suction and discharge. When the gears rotate, the volume between the teeth on the suction side gradually increases, causing a decrease in pressure. This pressure difference allows the liquid to enter the teeth. Subsequently, as the gears continue to rotate, the liquid between the teeth is carried into the discharge chamber. Meanwhile, the volume between the teeth on the discharge side gradually decreases, leading to the discharge of the liquid.
Gear pumps are well-suited for transporting lubricating liquids without solid particles, as long as they are non-corrosive and possess a wide viscosity range. These pumps have a remarkable flow rate of up to 300 m3/h and can generate pressures of up to 3×107 Pa. Consequently, they are often used as hydraulic pumps and for conveying various oil products.
